Help? Who do I turn to?
There are so many insurance providers who promise low rates, great service and even reducing deductibles. Are these promises too good to be true? Who do you trust? Who do you give your business to?
Don’t base your decision on price alone
We all want to save premium dollars and keep more of our hard earned money in our pockets. However, if your insurance provider does not have a system in place for protecting your insurance history, lower rates and reducing deductibles are irrelevant.
Ask who you would be speaking to in the event of a loss
If the answer is an adjuster who works for your insurer, or an independent adjusting firm – steer clear. You could be putting yourself at risk for incurring higher premiums, raised deductibles and possibly non-renewal of your policy.
This is because losses can be held against you regardless of whether you decide to file a claim or not. In today's insurance climate, it is vital to discuss potential claims with an independent insurance broker who works for you.
Our Claims Counsellor will advise you of any possible drawbacks prior to any loss report going to the insurer.
Ask what alternatives will be made available to you in the event that your policy is non-renewed.
Find a broker who has alternative or "substandard" markets available. This will avoid you scrambling for coverage at the last minute, or even worse, going without insurance until you can find it once again.
